Simulation Engineer - Freelance
Engineering simulation and optimization: engine and vehicle simulation, DOE and optimization, model calibration, and ML-based simulation proof of concept.
About this role
Over nearly a decade, I worked as a simulation engineer on powertrain and vehicle systems for major automotive clients including Garrett Motion and Toyota Motor Europe.
The role spanned the full simulation lifecycle: from building engine, powertrain, and vehicle models to developing methodologies for optimization and Design of Experiments (DOE), and creating calibration workflows to reduce physical testing effort.
I also developed productivity tools for engineers and technicians to accelerate simulation workflows. Toward the end of this period, I explored a machine learning–based approach for engine simulation as a Proof of Concept, which marked my transition toward data science.
Key contributions
- Simulation of engines, powertrains, vehicles, and components.
- Development of simulation methodologies and processes, including DOE and optimization problem-solving.
- Model calibration methodology to reduce testing efforts and improve calibration efficiency and robustness.
- Creation of productivity tools for engineers and technicians.
- Proof of Concept exploring a machine learning–based approach for engine simulation using ASCMO.
